... now I am at GU and it goes well, I chose GU because their lessons are more me, and I know that after 3 years, I must go to school and then there are more open "doors" for my future, I need to get more opportunities because I certainly want to get out and explore the world and try different schools before I tie myself to my "real" job in the future and I would like to convince myself that I can go all the way!

 

The lessons and school is taken very seriously, [more than at] the primary schools, it's very well, and more 'me', I need something serious, it is not always difficult, but it is good with some 'hard works' sometimes, and the class it works very good I think.

 

I really like going to school here and I look forward to 3 good years here.

Why I chose to go to GU

Sometimes it can be tough when we have many written assignments in school, and homework. And at the same time you go to sports, and also want to spend time with your friends. And maybe have a boyfriend you also have to spend time with, so sometimes you don't have much time to do homework. And it can also be tough when you haven't seen your family in a long time and miss them, you can easily get distracted in school when you think of your family too much. And sometimes you wish that your family was here, because some of the classmates tell you that they got help from their parents with the math-assignment, which you didn’t really know how to do and really had a tough time trying to do. But you do the homework and are proud of yourself because you did it anyway, even when you had difficulties doing it. But when I need help with something I try to do homework with my classmates in school, because we can borrow the school key and be in GU in the evening doing homework. And if it is really difficult homework I can talk to my teacher about it and hopefully he/she will help me.

  But if it is personal problems when everything gets tough and sad, I just try to think positive, because it is not going to be like this always, I try to talk to my friend and my big sister, because they are the people who truly can understand me. And when there is disagreement in the class, we just argue, and at some point we become friends again. Only rarely you don't become friends again, that's just something you have to accept. And in school we have contact teachers who we can come to and talk to, and our headmistress is a psychologist, and the school also has a psychologist, so we have plenty of places to go to if we have serious problems.

Why I chose to go to GU

My name is Semion Nielsen and I’m 19 years old. I’m a second year student here in South Greenlandic High School called GU.

I love to study here because of the studying environment, and the teachers, but it’s not always easy to study because we usually have a lot of homework to do. The best thing in GU is probably the parties, like the intro party for the first year students.

Of course you can get tired of school, but that’s normal. But you have to keep moving if you want to get a good job and a good starting salary when you finish with your further education.

Por Eso Es Que Estoy En Secundaria

Yo nací en el año 1992 en el sur de Nicaragua. Como 15 km de la frontera de Costa Rica. Nosotros nos mudamos a Groenlandia en el año 2002. Primero estuvimos en Aasiaat por 2 años. Despues nos mudamos al sur, Alluitsup Paa.  Yo fui a la escuela de  ese lugar hasta 9. grado y el 10. año lo termine en Nanortalik. Despues fui a una escuela de continuacion en Dinamarca, por un año. Despues de eso vine aqui, a GU.

Me gusta estar aqui en GU Qaqortoq. El primer año fue un poquito raro, porque no conocía a mucha gente aqui. Asi que al principio siempre estaba un poco nervioso, antes de ir a la escuela y mientras estaba en la escuela. Pero ahora ya es segundo año que estoy aqui y a veces no hayo las ganas de comenzar las clases al siguiente día. Me gusta porque a veces puede ser bien difícil(challenging). Y tambien porque puedo excambiar mucha sabiduría estando aqui.

Why I chose to go to GU

I was born in the year 1992 in the southern part of Nicaragua, about 15 km from the border of Costa Rica. We moved to Greenland in 2002. First we were in Aasiaat for 2 years. Then we moved to the southern part, Alluitsup Paa. I went to school there until 9th grade. 10th grade I took in Nanortalik. After that I went to a continuation school in Denmark, for a year. From there I came here, to GU.

I like going to GU here in Qaqortoq. The first year was a little strange, because I didn’t know so many people here. So in the beginning I was always a little nervous before going to school, and while I was at school. But now in second year I sometimes look forward to going to school the next day. I like it because sometimes it can be very challenging. And also because I get and exchange a lot of knowledge by going here. But you also have to make an effort yourself, to get something out of it, and so far I think I have gotten a lot. I have gotten new friends, new knowledge and also new skills, for example I learned to play the bass, drums and a little piano in my first year, and those are things I will go on practicing.

Pero tambien uno tiene que hacer su propio esfuerzo, para sacar algo, y hasta este punto yo pienso que he sacado bastante. He hecho nuevas amistades, nueva sabiduría y nuevas habilidades, por ejemplo: aprendí a tocar el bajo, la batería y un poquito de piano en mi primer año, y esas son cosas que seguiré practicando, si es posible, el resto de mi vida.

Why I chose to go to GU

I chose GU because I thought that I would have more options. When I’ve finished there will be more possibilities for further education. And I will have my high school certificate, which I can use anywhere. And it will always be my certificate. And I think that when I've finished GU there will be many doors I can pass through, many exciting and hopefully good things I can learn.
And in GU there are activities, study hall, music-class, and other things, and the teachers help the students to learn and do their homework. They are really nice, there is a teacher almost every day after we have had class who can help you with your homework. I didn't think when I was in the lower
school that I would have so much help from other people and learn many things, you work very independently and you can always count on your teacher or classmates to help you. You will learn that you also can study and read some books without a teacher or classmates who will remind you with
something. When I started GU I was very afraid to fade away or I thought I couldn't do my homework, but now I know that there is a big solidarity in GU. And when we have homework, me and some of my classmates work together. Because if there something I don't know how to do, there will always be one or two who can help me and explain it to me and if they don't know how to do it I explain it. And like that we can find out about almost everything.
